Alaska Leadership and Data Governance
September 18, 2008 11:46 pm MetaphorsBoy, am I glad I was able to enjoy my Alaska vacation and get out before that state hit the news. Did I mention I spent some time in Anchorage and was able to become familiar with some of the surrounding small towns? Wasilla (population about 7K) is one such town.
You know, I love analogies. Here’s one:
Wasilla/Alaska
is to
Orlando/Florida (my city/state)
is to
U.S.A./World
Like
A 3-table Access database
is to
Oracle Financials
is to
a technical & data landscape containing dozens of SAP installations.
Here’s an idea:
When you’re staffing your Data Architecture program, and you’re looking for the person who might have to take over your enterprise data model (and meanwhile will be part of your Data Governance program, negotiating architectural compromises with your internal and external stakeholders),
you might want to ask if they know how to do more than string 3 tables together.
